When parents impose their customs..

Prejudice it's a very ugly thing to have. Prejudice is the feeling of rebelian towards another person of a diferent race or diferent culture, like jewish people used to be discriminated because they weren't catholics and they even were sent to work camps, but now it's more against homossexuals, transexuals or black people, although that's starting to vanish.
For instance, a father of three is against black people, what he does is to try to input those wrong thoughts in his children's mind, in order to make them dislike the things he dislike.
If we think hard enough we realise that most of the things we like or dislike are aquired based on what our parents, or big brothers, teach us, of course when we are old enough to think for our selfs we are able to make our own choises, but most of those choises are a little bit influenced on what our parents used to say to us when we were little. Parents transmite to us values for a person's caracter and personality, but they can also transmite bad things such as prejudice towards something or someone and, when we have that prejudice, we tend to discriminate those people and try to make our friends and loved ones feel the way we feel about that especific thing.
Of course we can always change our way of thinking any time of our lives, but sometimes we can be just a little to late.

Shopping mall

Usually we are lead to go to the shopping mall, because it's just easier to go there and by everytinhg without leaving the building, since we have cinema, clothe stores, shoe stores, fast food restaurants, supermarkets, basically we could live there anda never go dirty, hungry or naked.
That is good, because the ordinary person doesn't have much time to waste on shopping, and doens't have the pacience to go from one building to another, becoming much more easier to just go there and do everytinhg we must.
Of course it also brings bancroupt to the smal business live grocery stores and the smal basic needs stores, because things are not only far away from each others, but also are more expensive most of the times, leading to a consumism made almost entirely in a shopping mall.
Personally I like to go there. It makes our lives more simple.

Means of transportation

Means of transportation, nowadays are seen like a car or an airplane, mostly motorized transports. But what would people do before they invented the weal? Would they stay always in the same place? No, they even moved more than we do today. They were nomades and they moved with their legs. After they invented the weal, they moved around with timber weals. Why am I bringing this up? I connect moving with immigration, therefore with multiculturalism. If we couldn´t move by boat or by airplane, we wouldn't be able to cross oceans and there would be a lot less immigration, causing a minor multicultural society, leading to beatings and prejudice more acurate than we see now on the public streets. So, I believe that transports, any kind we can find, are very useful and very much needed. But, speaking of some of the topics from last term, we should abuse so much of them, in order to atenuat the damages in the environment.

Multiculturalism

The multiculturalism happens when a lot of people of different cultures get together in a specific place, city or country.
The man reason why this happens is immigration that lead to the formation of different social groups.
This may be kept out of society by the population of the country that will use racists attitudes, discrimination and xenophobia, for example. So there is people with different culture habits and rules in the same place, which may taken them to assume different attitudes such as ethnocentrism, cultural relativism and interculturalism.
In the ethnocentrism there are people that watch other cultures always thinking of their own. This kind of people considers its culture as a superior own and wants over rule all the other ones. So to preserve their superior culture the ethnocentric beings to have negative attitudes such as: xenophobia (foreigner hate) and racism (violent actions which the man target are several ethnic groups).
In the cultural relativism all cultures are considered important enough to be protected and each person should live according to his own values, not having any kind of dialogue or contact with any other culture.
In the interculturalism there is respect for all the cultures and equality between them is supported. There is also a dialogue and contact between cultures. This kind of dialogues will allow the enrichment of the cultures.
Nowadays it’s necessary to have shared group moral values such as the human rights and liberty and equality, the respect for different cultures.

Fast-Food

Nowadays fast-food is a place that offer us comfort and convenience at low cost. Because of our necessity of not losing any time and also the comfort of this type of restaurants make us believe that we have nothing to lose.
But is precisely the opposite that happens because this kind of food may cause serious health problems as the ingredients are not very healthy. As a matter of food , there is a documentary directed by Morgan Spurlock named “Super Size Me”, in which the director tries to make a connection between some health problems and fast-food, by testing his own body eating MacDonald’s fast-food for a month.
Before all that he did extensive medical exams that proved that he was in excellent health. But at the end of the month of eating fast-food at all meals the director began to fell behest pains breathing difficulties the pressure, insomnia and shakes. In the 20th they is liver failed but still ménage to and is “diet” going 12 Kg.
This was mainly caused by the great amounts of fat sugar and salt of ingredients that are used in fast-food. In big quantities may have serious consequences as Spurlock shown.
We should only eat a small quantity of this kind of food and have an healthy diet which have vegetables.

Marketing and Celebrities

A good application of marketing requires careful market research, product planning packing price promotion and distribution. This can be true to people and also to products with some differences. A detergent simply stays into supermarket shell with out doing any drugs hitting any reporters or firing its managers, things that can happen when dealing with celebrities and them impossible behavior.
In different sectors we can see that the contribution of marketing to increase the prestige of someone it varies.
There are three basics strategies to set a celebrity in the market:

The celebrity must create an interested for the qualities and characteristics of the product.

Consumerism

Modern society has a huge tendency to consume without necessity, especially in the USA. People spend and purchase things at the frenetic rhythm.
Nowadays, teenagers are demanding consumers, they don’t want cheap products, but usually prefer what is more expensive, because these products make them feel better and believe that with expensive things, they can integrate in certain groups and be accept.
The consumerism is very good for mundial economic, but brings serious consequences to the society and to our planet. The consumerism in the society influences people to spend more that they should with the excessive acquisition of unnecessary products.
Our planet will also suffer serious consequences because the level of trash will also increase. Reducing the number of sites to put it and so its accumulation will contaminate rivers, seas and soils.
This situation eventually will bring to extinction some species of animals and plants.

Nowadays we see many famous people, in magazines, advertisements, banner-ads or even in the streets. They can be singers, actors, TV presenters, Presidents, Deputies... Prhaps presidents and deputies are known for the important role they have in society but the singers for example, are clearly known for their music. In today's image is very important : the beauty, dressing habits, hairdos,Etc... Celebrities do skin treatments, they get their hairdone...
Because it is through this that they are known. Many kids are influenced by the celebrities. They can imitate their way of dressing, the hair cut, tattoos and their figure. Sometimes it's ok to do things like these, but it is worse when they change radically, or they start to do tattoos, piercings in the ears, nose, face, body, or they decide to dye their hair another colour. She is extremely careful with her money and is rarely seen making purchases if it's not in liquidations. Shophie has an excellent relationship with the manager of her bank. And curiously she created a character completely opposite to her. The series Becky Bloom of Shophie Kinsella, has five books in all.Becky Bloom, is the main character, a journalist specialized in the area of finances and a compulsive purchaser. But in she reality, she doesn't understand anything about economy. Although she works in this branch, she is always running away from the bank manager and arranges crazy ways to pay her credit card. The books have an order: “Confessions of a Shopaholic”, “Shopaholic Takes Manhattan”, “Shopaholic Ties the Knot”, “Shopaholic & Sister” and “Shopaholicc & Baby”. The life of Becky is divided in these five books. These books will all be produced in a film. From what I have read of the summaries of her books I think that they are very amusing books and perhaps there are many women who identify with Becky.

What Not to Wear

What Not to Wear is an American reality television show about fashion directed by Stacy London and Clinton Kelly.
I decided to choose this program because sometimes I watch it on People & Arts, a TV channel, and I like it so much.
On this reality show, the participant receives a Bank of American Visa card in the amount of 5,000 dollars to buy a whole new wardrobe but first of all he/she is submitted for an honest criticism. If the participant accepts the challenge, he/she is brought to New York City for a week of evaluation, shopping and hair and makeup styling.
It´s interesting see the transformations because they have to convince people, who wearing inappropriate clothes for their age or don’t make salient their body, to change their clothes, hair and makeup.
I watch an episode where a girl didn’t want to cut your hair because she respected her tradition so she considered her hair a precious thing.

Multicultural Society

On all over the world live people together with different nationalities, colors and cultures and this is the people who form a multicultural society.
As we spoke on class, Australia is considered a multicultural society because this country receives people from everywhere. Australians respect all religions, they value the wealth of diversity and social sophistication. So Australia is a safe, friendly and harmonious country.
It’s very important to keep peace between mixed people so they can live and work together. But sometimes this is not easy because we live in a prejudice world where there is many conflicts with people of different races (racism) and different cultures.
By the other hand, living in a multicultural society has some advantages. People can learn more about different cultures, lifestyles and traditions.
Some countries welcome foreign cultures more than other. For example, in the UK you can find information written in many different languages, however, in Germany you will just find information in German and sometimes in English.
We should accept people from everywhere because we can profit a lot with that.
